Who is responsible

Mermaid Universe is published by Tinge World Publishing, which decides how your details are used and is the data controller under EU law. The publisher of record is Stephannie Kaye Jones.

What we collect

• From the listing form: your name or mersona, email, country, region or city, what kind of mermaid or professional you are, skills, languages, one link to your work, what you are interested in, and your confirmation that you are 18 or over.
• For a member page: the photos, bio, CV and links you put on it.
• For an order: your name and, for anything printed, the postal address it goes to. Card payments are handled by our payment provider. We never see or store your card number.
• Messages you send us, and messages sent to you through the contact button on your listing.
• Basic server records kept by our web host, such as IP address, browser and time of visit, used to keep the site running and secure.

What is public

Your listing shows your name or mersona, country and region, type, skills and languages. A member page also shows the photos, text and links you add. Anyone in the world can see these, and search engines can index them. Don't put anything on your page that you would not want found.

Your email address, your postal address and your payment details are never shown.

Why we use it

• To publish your listing and send you news of the quarterly, the Pearl Awards and the casting register, because you asked us to. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
• To provide your member page and deliver what you order, because that is our agreement with you.
• To keep order and payment records, because Dutch tax law requires it.
• To keep the site secure and deal with misuse, which is in everyone's legitimate interest.

Who helps us

We don't sell, rent or trade your details. A few companies handle them on our behalf so the site can work:

• HostGator hosts the site.
• Wix processes payments and receipts.
• Google provides our email.
• Lulu and Canva print and deliver the quarterly and certificates, and receive the name and address for the parcel.

Some of these companies are in the United States. They handle your details under the safeguards EU law provides for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies and runs no analytics. When you pay, you leave for our payment provider's page, which uses the cookies it needs to take a payment safely.

How long we keep it

• Your listing and member page stay until you ask us to take them down.
• Order and payment records are kept for seven years, as Dutch tax law requires.
• Messages and enquiries are kept for up to two years.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, have it sent to you in a usable format, limit or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent. Email Info@TingeWorld.com and we will sort it within 30 days. We apply these rights to everyone, wherever you live.

If you think we have handled your details wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the authority in your own country.

Under 18

Mermaid Universe lists adults only. We do not knowingly collect details from anyone under 18, and we remove any such listing as soon as we learn of it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects what is public about you, we email you first.
